If implementation difficulty where a concern we would get rid of
hygienic macros first.  Oh wait, Gambit doesn't even have hygienic
macros. ;-)

Haven't used Gambit for years, save for testing system compatibility, so I may be wrong, but I thought that '-:s' added hygenic macro support via an extension.
